For me, becoming a doctor was a journey. I graduated from UC Berkeley with an English degree and worked in healthcare research and consulting in Washington, DC. This experience, along with my own personal health issues, inspired me to become a doctor. My position allows me to help others and make a difference in my community.
I chose to specialize in general surgery because each case presents a new challenge requiring careful understanding of the individual patient and disease process. Though I am trained in all general surgery procedures, I was fortunate to complete a fellowship in endocrine surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Diseases of the endocrine system are often "off the radar" and a mystery to those not affected by them. I have expertise in evaluating and treating surgical diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, and pancreas, including advanced minimally invasive endocrine surgical techniques.
In my practice, I always take time to listen to my patients and want them to play an active role in their care. Patients should feel at ease and satisfied that all their questions were answered. I believe my patients would describe me as compassionate, accessible, personable and approachable.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughters. I love being active and like outdoor activities, including running and hiking, travel, and cooking.
