About Dr. Derickson
Dr. James Derickson, MD, board-certified in both Family Medicine and Pediatrics has been practicing for over 40 years in Ohio, Colorado, and most recently Southern Arizona. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University Medical School, and did his residency at Travis Air Force Base in California. He has delivered babies (over 250!), trained in emergency rooms, and has been the team doctor for his sons’ soccer teams. He chose Family Medicine and Pediatrics because he has always been interested in the well-being of the family unit, believing that by helping one family member, he is helping the entire family. He enjoys working with newborns through seniors.
"My patients are extremely important to me. I take great pride in earning their trust--and always spend time to ensure that they feel educated and comfortable in their plan of care. I listen closely because my goal is to determine the underlying cause if a condition, thereby attempting to prevent a recurrence. I believe that my patients appreciate my humor, friendly attitude, and consideration of their individual conditions."
Dr. Derickson has a special interest in the effects of anxiety, depression, and stress on the human body, believing that health involves a balance of mind, body, spirit, and social involvement.
Now a grandfather of nine, Dr. Derickson enjoys fitness, working on outdoor projects, spending time with family and friends, and learning new dance steps. He also enjoys learning languages and is hoping to be able to improve his Spanish while here in Southern Arizona. Dr. Derickson and his wife, Cheryl Todd (a retired psychotherapist) have lived in Santa Cruz County since 2007 with their 2 dogs and 2 cats.
