Northwest Medical Center Department of Inpatient Physical Therapy offers a hospital setting for Physical Therapy (PT) and Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) students. This setting allows students to gain experience with the adult and geriatric populations.
A student will acquire knowledge and practice working in the areas of:
The student will learn skills in evaluation and assessment, plan of care development, billing and documentation, treatment strategies, activity modification, discharge planning, and communication with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, case managers, nurses and allied health professionals. We will provide direct supervision of students, allowing for growth and independence while developing a personal caseload towards the end of the clinical rotation. During your experience there may be opportunities to observe a surgery or outpatient therapy. An in-service presentation is required at the end of the internship.
Northwest Medical Center Department of Physical Therapy offers an outpatient clinical setting for Physical Therapy (PT) and Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) students. This setting allows students to gain experience with the populations of pediatrics older than 12 years old, adults and geriatrics.
The student will have the opportunity to practice in the areas of:
The student will learn skills in evaluation and assessment, plan of care development, documentation and billing, treatment strategies and techniques, use of modalities, and discharge planning. There will be direct supervision of the student which will allow for growth and independence while developing a caseload throughout the clinical experience. Dependent on the school's assignment requirement during the clinical, the student may be required to perform an in-service presentation.
Northwest Medical Center's Department of Physical Therapy offers internships to three to four PT or PTA students per year in either the Outpatient Therapy or Inpatient Hospital settings. Northwest Medical Center requires that a PT student be in their second or third year of their program. For a PTA student, it should be a second or third clinical.
