Knowing back pain sufferers often don’t find lasting relief, The Joint & Spine Center at Northwest brings you personalized spine care with the ultimate goal of accelerating your treatment so your pain is relieved and you can get back to your life.
Northwest Medical Center’s Spine Navigation Program brings together a diverse group of specialists including neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, radiologists, physiatrists, pain management physicians and physical therapists, to provide comprehensive spinal care. 85% of back pain does not require surgery- that’s why we offer a collaborative approach to help you receive the right treatment for your pain quickly, efficiently and easily.
At the heart of the spine navigation program is a registered nurse, or spine navigator. This person collects a patient’s medical history, any recent X-rays or scans or other reports related to the back pain. A doctor specializing in spine care then reviews the case, usually within days. Treatment recommendations may include an expedited clinic appointment, additional diagnostic tests, physical therapy or referral to a physiatrist or pain management physician. The spine navigator reports the assessment and recommendations to the patient and coordinates next steps, such as scheduling recommended appointments.

Though most people may have back pain at some point in their life, it’s not something you should have to live with constantly. Rather than trying to find out what the best course of treatment is, spine navigation’s goal is to help you receive the right treatment for your pain the first time through our diverse network of physicians. The rapid review of your case means you are typically in the physician’s office faster than if you call the office directly, so you can start receiving treatment sooner. Personalized care from the spine nurse navigator gives you one point of contact, so you don’t have to deal with multiple physician offices.
The Northwest Medical Center Spine Navigation program includes a diverse group of talented physicians. Each physician’s skill and expertise in back pain provides Spine Navigation patients comprehensive care to treat their pain.
My back was in severe pain; my life was on hold waiting for my Primary Care Physician to determine what was wrong and how to alleviate my discomfort. A friend recommended Northwest Medical Center’s Spine Navigation program so I spoke to the nurse navigator and she immediately went to work for me. After a physician reviewed my case, I received a diagnosis and my treatment plan was instantly put into action. The navigator communicated directly with me and the whole process was extremely efficient. I am now receiving exceptional care during physical therapy sessions.”
