Labor and Delivery
Northwest Medical Center The Women’s Center was designed with mother and baby in mind. Our inviting facility and comprehensive programs support you from the time you find out you are pregnant through delivery and post delivery too (including lactation consultants and a breast pump rental program). Note: The Women’s Center is a designated “Safe Baby Site” anonymous, no-questions-asked drop off location for newborns.
Pre-Natal Classes for Mothers and Coach
Preparing for the Birth Experience
This is a five-session class for the first-time mother. Topics include:
- Common discomforts of the third trimester
- Communication and sexuality
- Labor and delivery
- Early bonding and breastfeeding
- Newborn characteristics and care
A tour of The Women’s Center is included. A condensed two-session class is also available. To register, call 866-NW4WELL.
Baby Care Basics
A one-session class featuring basic survival techniques for first-time parents or childcare provider. Topics include:
- Normal characteristics of the baby
- Diapering and bathing
- Stimulation for intellectual development
- Creating a safe environment
- Recognizing illness and knowing when to call the doctor
Breastfeeding: The Perfect Start
A one-session class taught by experienced lactation consultants. Helpful information is provided to increase each mother’s understanding and confidence with breastfeeding.
Parent CPR
This 1 ½ hour class features pediatric CPR training. Participants will receive the skills needed to prevent and manage emergency situations for infants and children to age 8. The fee is $20 per person.
General Tour and Sibling Tour
Tour The Women’s Center. The general tour will familiarize you with our comprehensive maternity services, including the labor/delivery/recovery and postpartum suites, Level II nursery and family waiting rooms. The sibling tour is designed for children ages three to 10. Parents and their children will tour the birthing rooms and see and touch the equipment used to care for the baby and mother.
Countdown to B-Day
A refresher class for expectant mothers and their coaches. A tour of The Women’s Center is included.
Birthing Naturally
A 2-hour class for women who want to learn more about delivering their babies naturally and without drugs. This class should be taken early in the third trimester.
Labor and Delivery Unit
The Women’s Center has 13 labor and delivery rooms, 17 mother and baby rooms. Mother delivers baby and stable infants remain with the mother throughout her stay in the same room.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level II):
For newborns requiring extra care, The Women’s Center has an ICU specially designed to take care of them with 13 beds. We also have round the clock coverage by a neonatal physician.
Support Groups
Mother-to-Mother Pregnancy and Postpartum Adjustment Support Group
This group provides a supportive environment for women who are adjusting to the challenges of pregnancy and motherhood. To attend, you can be pregnant, a first-time mother, or mother several times over.
Wednesdays, 10 am- 11:30 am

Breast Feeding Support Group
Meet with new Moms and a Lactation Consultant to hear other Mothers’ experiences and get your questions about breastfeeding answered. Registration is not required.
Wednesdays, 1 pm -2:30 pm

- Bereavement support for individuals experiencing a loss during pregnancy or at the time of delivery.
