Improve your life and make a difference in your community.

The success of Northwest Medical Center is due in part to the hard work and dedication of its volunteers. We have more than 325 volunteers that work in almost every area of the hospital. Our volunteers play a vital role in meeting the non-medical needs of our patients.

How Soon Will I Be Able to Begin Volunteering?

People who are volunteering in a hospital must comply with strict government regulations. These regulations are designed to make sure our hospitals are safe places for our patients, visitors, staff and volunteers.

First you must be interviewed. During the interview, we will:

  • Select a volunteer position for you
  • Adults will sign a release for a criminal background check. You will need to bring your social security number for this.
  • Make a copy of your photo ID
  • Give you information on purchasing your uniforms. They are for sale in the Hospital Gift Shop. Junior volunteers purchase scrub tops at the discounted price of $15. Adult uniforms are purchased for $25 new or $5 used. After completing the first 100 volunteer hours, adult volunteers will receive a $25 voucher for the Hospital Gift Shop.
  • You will be given some training materials to complete and bring with you to orientation.
  • Visit our Employee Health Department. All volunteers will be screening for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetnus and TB. If you do not have proof of immunity, we will titer you via blood tests. Junior Volunteers will undergo a drug test. This will be done at no cost to you.
  • A mandatory orientation is held the last Tuesday of every month from 9:00–Noon in the classrooms in the main hospital.
  • After you have completed the orientation, you will be scheduled for training for your specific position.
